ISLAND SAILING CLUB (ISC)

Island Sailing Club is the last club left in Durban that sails only dinghies, and was established over forty five years ago.  Our sailing waters are in the Port of Durban harbour. This facility is with the blessing of the Port Captain and his office and is  situated down the “Silt Channel from the Dry Dock on the Bluff.

It is a family club with a small membership but with big spirit and heart. Our membership fees are kept as low as possible, enabling people of all social standards to come and participate in sailing – you don’t have to have a boat to come along and see if you like the sport. The Club offers various club boats to assist new members in their venture into Sailing.

The clubhouse is equipped with the usual facilities, a large hall (Ideal for those 21st, Weddings, Company Functions), toilets, galley (kitchen) and a large garden with braai area, allowing everyone to relax in nice surroundings. They offer free camping for all our major regattas as well as affordable camping on weekends and holidays.

Island Sailing Club have training programs being run regularly, teaching people of all ages from five to fifty five how to sail. These courses cover all aspects of sailing from the basics to more advanced training which includes racing and rules. These courses make use of boats owned by the club, so the financial outlay is very small and should you want to buy a boat, good second-hand ones can be found at very reasonable prices. They also have a social development plan in place, where we teach people from disadvantaged backgrounds, who have never before been exposed to sailing and the fun involved.
