Largest TSL Participation to Date in KZN

Team sailing on Sunday, 13 October, saw the biggest participation yet for the KZN Team Sailing League with 36 people taking part, plus volunteers who ran the racing and the jury/safety boat crew. Firstly, we say a huge thank you to P. Trimborn agency for sponsoring fuel for the rescue boats for Team Sailing in KZN, and to the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation for sponsoring the entry fee and transport for a development team. Thank you too, to Lotto for sponsoring the TSL14 boats.

TuksYachting host Inter Varsities TSL

After less than a year of establishment, TuksYachting was ready to host its first regatta. Our home base, PSC (Pretoria Sailing club) at Rietvlei dam would be the venue for our first inter-varsity event. All hands were on deck by the TuksYachting committee to get the event under way. The event drew 30-plus students from various universities, these being: UP, Wits, UKZN and NWU

TSL Launches in Eastern Cape

The inaugural South African Sailing East Cape Team Sailing League Regatta sponsored by Coca-Cola took place on 12 October 2019 in the port of Port Elizabeth and was sailed from the Port Elizabeth Deep Sea Angling Club (PEDSAC). Alan Straton put together this report

Team Sailing League Takes off

Since its launch in 2017, the Team Sailing League (TSL) has been enjoying great success around the country. The chief aim of the TSL is to draw in new participants who in the past would not have given sailing a go, while also reigniting the passion in our current sailors by introducing the competitive team element.

Marine Inspirations Programme in Palma, Spain Four Sail Africa girls from the ‘Train to Win girls’ team’ were invited to go to Palma in Spain for a 10-day experience of the Super-yacht industry, sponsored by Marine Inspirations. Marine Inspirations is a charitable mentoring programme established to introduce the prospect of a maritime career to youngsters from disadvantaged or less-advantaged backgrounds. Ashwell and Arendse make gold fleet at 420 World Championships

The young South African pair of Matt Ashwell and Rivaldo Arendse from Zeekoevlei Yacht Club put in a creditable performance at the recent 420 World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal. They claimed three top-10 race results in the under-17 category to make the gold fleet and eventually finished 33rd overall.

True learning experience at Youth World Championships

Four young sailors represented South Africa at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Poland from 13-20 July 2019. While, they may not have achieved the results they necessarily set out to, they all returned having learned invaluable lessons about what it takes to make it to the top.
