Walker finishes fifth at Optimist World Championships

South African teenager Ian Walker wrapped up a fantastic week of sailing at the Optimist World Championships in Antigua, just missing out on a podium spot. The 14-year-old was South Africa’s only representative at the championships and did the country proud, finishing in fifth place out of 255 competitors. This result ranks as one of the top achievements for South African sailors on the international stage.

SA Sailing President Philip Baum's Annual Report

Since my first report to an AGM five years ago, a great deal has been done in South African Sailing (SA Sailing). Occasionally driving up a steep hill it is informative to look back in the rear view mirror and see where one has come from. On reflection, the valley where we started is a long way below yet the top of the hill remains elusive. There have been frustrating diversions and delays, some self-inflicted by at times the federation itself and at other times by the members.

Round 2 of the Western Cape Open Team Sailing League a blast

Patric Loydell On Saturday 6 July, the second round of the Western Cape TSL Open League took place at Imperial Yacht Club (IYC). There was a total of 24 sailors on the water that was made up of 4 teams. We had UCT Mavericks, JML Sailing together, Sailing Together Senior Team (Parents of the JML Sailing Together Team) and the 1st Bergvliet Scouts.
