Windsurfer World Championships 2022 – a stunning Sicilian experience

Without historical stats to hand it’s hard to verify whether this was the biggest Worlds yet, but this year’s event hosted 347 sailors from around the world, made up of 64 women and 283 men. It was nice to see an under-15 and under-19 division making an appearance in the line-up. Of the bigger countries (10 or more sailors), Italy had 175 participants so by far the biggest presence (half the fleet!), followed by France with 44, Australia with 38, Netherlands with 32, Finland with 19 – and yup,

Remembering Khanya Mafuta

The South African and global sailing community were left reeling in early October with the news of the passing of one of their finest young talents, Khanya Mafuta. Mafuta (18) succumbed to injuries sustained in a stabbing incident at the Marikana informal settlement in KwaNonqaba near Mossel Bay.
