In order to get a Certificate of Fitness from South African Sailing (SAS) you need to list your yacht under your name on the SAS database. Listing requires proof of ownership as described on the application forms.

arrow Application form for a listing
arrow Additional owners (required if the vessel is owned by a company or trust or multiple owners)

When you list your boat, you get an "SA" number if it is a sailing boat, or a "ZA" number if it is a powerboat. The SA or ZA number has to be displayed on the hull of your boat.

If you wish to change your vessel's name, you have to apply for a new certificate of listing. The SA or ZA number does not change. The charge for a name change is less than the charge for a change of ownership.

The cost for listing is given in the attached table.

If you wish to race your yacht in a "one design" class you need a to register your measurement certificate. That has nothing to do with the Certificate of Fitness required by the National Small Vessel Safety Regulations for all yachts >9m. To register your measurement certificate, click here.
