Course Overview
Course Prerequisites
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Be at a minimum of Intermediate level of Sailing skills and ability
- Be a fully certified SA Sailing Instructor having all the SA Sailing Instructor prerequisites in place
Course Program
Candidates will do an in-depth study of the role and requirements of the Senior Instructor at a SAS Accredited Centre, falling within the National Training Program, candidates are also given the opportunity to demonstrate the overseeing of Instructors during on the water training, intervening where necessary in response to the safety, enjoyability and learning-quality of the session. They are guided through many scenarios of session planning for conditions, clients and craft as well as how to prepare for and handle to emergency situations.
Management, Presentation and communication of sailing concepts are covered and tested. Candidates are also made aware of safety and legal considerations that apply to the training of sailors in South Africa.
Course Format
The Current format of the course is an intensive full 4-day course and structured around weekends wherever possible. This is to ensure that all Practical and Theory aspects of the Course can be covered with candidates having to take minimum leave from work
Course Outcome
The candidate will be equipped and certified with the necessary to Set up and/or run a RTC Accredited Centre and train up Assistant SA Sailing Instructor to work under their direct supervision at their accredited Centre. A Senior Instructor is also able to create course session plans, as well as, deliver and teach the material on SA Sailing Learn to Sail Program
On Completion the successful delegates are presented with a SA Sailing Senior Instructor Certificate*
Course evaluation
Course delegates are briefed, debriefed and assessed on an ongoing basis throughout the duration the course to maximize on learning opportunities through the program.
Candidates deemed to be in need of extra training may need to complete an Action Plan (including re-assessment) issued at the discretion of the Instructor Developer running the course
All course delegates are required to pass a practical assessment at the end of the course.
*certificates are only issued to successful delegates who have submitted the required proof
