Programme Overview
The SA Sailing National Race Officer Programme is designed to bring Race Officers who hold a Regional Race Officer certificate to a level that they can be certified as National Race Officers and importantly be used as a refresher for current Nationally Accredited Race Officers. Attendance of the formal refresher workshop is a pre-requisite when renewing any RO certificate.
This programme forms part of the formal SA Sailing Race Officer’s framework and is the final formal training for SA Sailing Certificated Race Officers. The programme is made up of theory-based race and regatta workshop and practical experience with national competition. Accreditation is valid for 4 years.
Programme Prerequisites
- Be a min of 18 years of age
- Attend a National Race and Regatta Management Virtual Workshop, facilitated by a SA Sailing.
- A portfolio of evidence of having demonstrated capability as National Race Officer which includes
a minimum of 1 National event or 2 Regional events or 20 Club races and 1 event.
Programme Format
The Current format of the programme is a Virtual Race and Regatta Management Workshop facilitated by SA Sailing. Certification for this level of training will only be considered on the completion of the Workshop and receipt of a portfolio of evidence.
The programme is updated regularly to include relevant aspects of the new racing rules, recommended best practices and any updates to the SA Sailing policies and procedures. As a result, additional modules may become required to keep accreditations active.
Programme Outcome
The successful candidate will be able to officiate at National, Regional, Club or District competitions.
On completion, the successful candidate will be awarded a SA Sailing National Race Officer Certificate
Programme evaluation
Candidates will be assessed on the portfolio of evidence submitted. Written and or practical assessments may apply.
