The event will take place Lake Garda, Italy, from 13-20 July 2024. (http://www.worldsailingywc.org/home.php) and will be sailed in the classes listed below This list is subject to change if, and only if, World Sailing announces a different list of equipment for the Youth Worlds:

Aim

The aim of the Selection Process is to maximise the medal-winning potential of the South African Youth Sailing

Team at the 2024 Youth Sailing World Championships and the effective development of sailing talent and knowledge for future major International regattas and the Olympic Games, whilst making the best use of the resources available to the South African Youth Performance Programme.

The selection process will assist SA Sailing in determining who it wishes to be selected as part of the SA Sailing Youth Sailing Team at the 2024 Youth Sailing World Championships.

The aim may be best achieved by not nominating a sailor in one or more of the above disciplines.

Eligiblity

To be eligible for selection to compete in this event the Sailor must:

  • Be a South African citizen at the time that the nomination is made. (proof required).
  • Have a valid South African passport at the time of entering the event, and valid South African ID presented at the beginning of the selection event. (proof required).
  • Be a current member of a yacht/sailing club affiliated and in good standing with South African Sailing.
  • Be a paid up member of South African Sailing with a valid South African Sailing membership number.
  • Be under the age of 19 years on 31 December 2024 (born after 31 December 2005)
  • Be registered as an “World Sailing Sailor” on the World Sailing website
  • Comply with World Sailing regulation 19.2 – eligibility code.
  • Comply with World Sailing regulation 21 – World Sailing anti-doping policy.
  • Comply with the gender requirement of the event and class for which they are nominated. In the case of Open, male or female sailors are eligible.
  • In the case of the Nacra 15, combined crew weight needs to be within 115kgs – 125kgs range.
  • Must not have represented another country at any Class Nationals (or higher level of competition) within 3 years of this event.
