Overview
The SA Sailing 3-day judges seminar to provide theory based knowledge and understanding in the area of judging sailing towards the appointment of candidates as the respective levels of the SA Sailing National Judges Training Programme.
This seminar is open to new or existing/renewing judges
Criteria
- No age limit.
- Must be a member of SA Sailing.
- Have racing experience, preferably still be actively racing.
- Proficient in the English Language, and able to interpret and apply complex rules.
- Consistently exercise sound judgement
- Display the temperament and behaviour expected of a Race Official.
- Be committed to their ongoing development as a sailing judge.
Programme format
The SA Sailing Judges Seminar may be virtual or in person.
Candidates registering for this seminar will be presented pre-seminar assignments which needs to be completed prior to the seminar dates.
During the seminar, theory areas covered:
- Racing Rules of Sailing
- World Sailing Case Book
- World Sailing Q & A Booklet
- Interpretations of Rule 42, Propulsion
- Misconduct Guidance
- Preferred standard wording
- Judges Manual
- As well as undergo on-the-water training in judging RRS42 compliance.

Seminar outcomes
Candidates will be assessed with both a written and practical assessment.
Written assessment pass mark will be relevant in line with the criteria set for all levels in the programme as stated on the programmes criteria matrix.
Programme Evaluation
Candidate who successfully completes the necessary will be appointed by SA Sailing with the respective level of SA Sailing Judge accreditation.
