Course Outcome
The candidate will be in a position and certified to deliver and teach the SA Sailing Learn to Sail Program under the direction of a SA Sailing Senior Instructor at a SA Sailing Recognised Training Centre (RTC).

On Completion the successful delegates are presented with a SA Sailing Instructor Certificate*.

This qualification is recognised by World Sailing and is accepted at most World Sailing recognised training centres around the world.


Course Overview

The SA Sailing Instructor Course covers the practical techniques and theoretical tools needed to deliver first-class sailing lessons, offering incremental achievement within a structured learning format. The course is based on World Sailing (WS) recommendations as well as on international best-practice by means of comparisons with the programmes of other top sailing nations with World Sailing recognised programmes. Candidates are given the opportunity on the course to demonstrate their ability to run sailing lessons that are safe, enjoyable, that ensure learning takes place and which promote sailing as a lifelong activity. Emphasis is placed on the SA Sailing Learn to Sail Methods required for teaching in SA Sailing RTC – Recognised Training Centres but candidates also explore some of the further sessions in developing sailing skill and seamanship skills to intermediate level and beyond.

Presentation and communication of sailing concepts are covered and tested. Candidates are also made aware of safety and legal considerations that apply to the training of sailors in South Africa.

 

Course Prerequisites

  • Be a min of 16 years of age Have a competent skill and understanding of sailing in the relevant endorsement categories (i.e. Dinghies, Multihulls, Keelboats, Kiteboarding etc.)
  • SA Sailing Safety Boat Operators Certificate
  • A 1st Aid Certificate (min of level 1, with drowning and secondary drowning)
  • A Police Clearance Certificate

Course Program

The Current format of the course is an intensive Full 4-day course which starts at 9am and continues until 6pm each day ending on the 4th evening by 5pm. This is to ensure that all Practical and Theory aspects of the Course can be covered with candidates having to take minimum leave from work. Candidates can expect to have to demonstrate and set up sessions as well as delivery presentations, preparation/homework for sessions can also be expect for the following days program

Course delegates are briefed, debriefed and assessed on an ongoing basis throughout the duration the course to maximize on learning opportunities through the program.
