The Story of the HBYC Hunters
Thomas Brown
The story of the Hunters at Hout Bay Yacht club is one to inspire any club – it’s one of success, bringing joy back to sailing, attracting more (and younger) members to the club, and building a vibe like never before. Commodore of HBYC Paul Tomes filled us in on how it all came about…
The story of the Hunters at Hout Bay Yacht Club begins in August 2016. Being just an ordinary member of the club then, I decided that racing a handicap boat really wasn’t giving me enough fun and enough enjoyment. What I really wanted to see at the club was a fleet of one-design keelboats, where racing would be a lot closer and a lot more fun.
