A close call for Hubert Saayman – Nyamezela / Rio 2 Cape return

We had a near fatal incident on Sunday the 5th of March at 2:30am. I was on 24:00-03:00 shift at the helm contending with some large swells and 15-20 knots wind on the starboard beam. I had the tiller and sitting with my back facing the weather. Suddenly out of nowhere, a gust healed the boat over to about 35deg and a breaker hit us square on the starboard beam with a ton of water gushing over / into the cockpit. I took a serious amount of water direct on my back and got ejected across the cockpit over the port safety lines. Hull Inspection Certificate Extentions

The initial Hull Inspection Certificate based on an inspection by a safety officer is valid for 24 months. It may at no cost be extended by up to 48 months from this initial inspection based on further hull inspections conducted by the owner. The procedures for both routes are outlined here
