Newly launched Sailing Club at Pretoria Boys High

Sailing is alive and well at high school level. That’s the message received after 80 students signed up for the newly launched sailing club at Pretoria Boys High School this month. Two learners, Simon Holm and Louis du Plessis, felt inspired to share their love of sailing with their schoolmates and were the force behind the new club.
“The general inspiration behind the club is that we’d like to promote sailing again among high school guys as a high school sport. I think there could be a great vibe around sailing, especially if we can get it going in the schools again,” explained Holm, a matric learner at the school.
“I sail Dabchicks and last year at the Youth Nationals we had 14 Dabchicks of which two were not from the Western Cape. So only two were from Gauteng and I thought – if we could take it to the schools and try to get the guys involved then we could push those numbers up quite a bit.” Read more...
