SA Sailing announces new Sailing Schools
Published Thu 02 Feb 2023
Skipper’s Tickets for Recreational Sailing Vessels greater than 9m in length
The South African National Small Vessel Safety Regulations require the skipper of a recreational sailing vessel greater than 9 meters in length to have a certificate of competence, commonly referred to as a skipper ticket. SA Sailing has for many years been accredited to issue these certificates of confidence subject to protocols agreed with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
Most skippers get their certificate of competence by attending an approved sailing school. The interaction with an instructor and other students on a well-equipped training yacht provides an excellent learning environment and a great introduction to keelboat sailing. At the end of the course the school will arrange an exam with an independent SA Sailing examiner.
Two new sailing schools, both operating out of False Bay Yacht Club. These are:
- Cape Point Sailing Academy
- Mills Boating Academy
