I suspect that a whole lot of members are waiting with bated breath to hear of my meeting with the Department of Water and Sanitation. South African Sailing has a long-standing relationship with the Department. My personal relationship goes back to the time when it was decided to implement SAMSA regulations on inland waters. As in all of my dealings with the authorities, I find that open and honest, face-to-face dialogue leads to understanding and to outcomes of mutual benefit.

It’s a far-removed scene from where he grew up – in Harare, Zimbabwe. And even from where he’s currently based – in Johannesburg.
