I need to thank you for the positive reception of last month’s contribution. I feel that the value proposition is starting to take hold, and I have a sense that the concept of a “community of sailors” is becoming a reality. Hopefully, we are nearing a point where “What does South African Sailing do for me?” will be replaced by “What can I do to nurture sailing?”

Many have already asked the latter question, and many are taking the initiative. All around, there are signs of green shoots of post-Covid growth. Of course, when it comes to nurturing sailing, it is necessary to look transformation and development squarely in the face... Read more...

Preliminary Notice of the SA Sailing National AGM

To all South African Sailing Affiliated Clubs and Class Associations

This is a preliminary notice in terms of Clause 26.1 of the South African Sailing Constitution, that the Annual General Meeting of South African Sailing shall be held as follows:

Date: Tuesday 22nd August 2023 |  Time: 18h00 |  Venue: Zoom

Any matters to be raised for discussion at the AGM shall be included on the agenda.

Proposed agenda items are required to be submitted with full motivation to the South African Sailing office at saswc@sailing.org.za before 1200 on Tuesday, 18th July 2023.

As part of World Sailing's focus on safety we would like to highlight an article https://www.sailing.org/2023/06/23/water-safety-is-everybodys-responsibility on our website sharing lessons learnt from a recent incident at a major event. The article emphasises that safety is everyone's responsibility as well as the importance of following safety procedures.

I would also like to remind you of the World Sailing Incident Reporting Portal https://www.sailing.org/inside-world-sailing/activities-services/technical-offshore/technical-services/technical-and-offshore-safety/incident-reporting/report-safety-incident/ where we encourage you to log incidents.

As part of World Sailing's focus on safety, the information collected will contribute to sharing of best practice across the wider sailing community.

SA Sailing will be running an Online Safety Officer Course during September/October 2023

We are looking at doing approximately 4-6 online sessions in the evening twice a week, which will be run by SA Sailing Senior Safety Officer, Gavin Van Der Meulen. Those interested, please contact the SA Sailing office via info@sailing.org.za.
