Covid-19 Lockdown Update

 

One month later we still remain within the government lockdown legislation however we have seen a definite change over the last week that offers us hope that we will be back on the water in the near future, provided the number of cases and deaths do not dramatically increase over the next few weeks.

During the last month SA Sailing has been in constant communication with two key bodies that regulate our sport; SASCOC/ Dept of Sport and Recreation and SAMSA.  read more...

  Youth Worlds Championships 2020 Cancelled
 

Youth Worlds Championships 2020 Cancelled

World Sailing has cancelled the 2020 edition of the Youth Sailing World Championships that was scheduled to be held in Salvador, Brazil from 12 - 19 December 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its 50-year history, the Youth Worlds regularly attracts the best youth sailors from upwards of 60 nations. World Sailing's Board of Directors and the Confederação Brasileira de Vela (CBVela) agreed to cancel the event in anticipation of global travel restrictions and to ensure the health and well-being of athletes, coaches, parents, officials and suppliers.

The 2021 edition of the Youth Worlds will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands in July 2021.

World Sailing and CBVela are now discussing the possibility of hosting the Youth Worlds in Brazil at the earliest opportunity.

South African Sailing – The begining

“Yachting at Port Elizabeth had been in its hey-day in the years before and after World War II, so it was not surprising the delegates representing Redhouse and Zwartkops at the 1947 Interclub regatta in Durban urged the formation of a properly constituted national authority to administer the fast-growing sport. All South African clubs interested in interclub racing would be represented. This was the origin of SAYRA – the South African Yacht Racing Association. read more....

SA Sailing Releases Sustainability Education Programme

SA Sailing now has co-branded with World Sailing a Sustainability Educational Programme available for download from the resources page on the SA Sailing website.

Sustainability Education Programme

World Sailing, in partnership with the World Sailing Trust and 11th Hour Racing, have released a Sustainability Education Programme, developed with The Ocean Race, for sailing clubs and parents as part of its Agenda 2030 - sailing's commitment to global sustainability.

The Sustainability Education Programme materials were developed with The Ocean Race, capitalising on the success of their own programme in the 2017-2018 edition of the race, and have been split into six topics each comprising of a booklet, trainer's guide and worksheet for age groups 6-8, 8-10 and 10-12.
